In-person and online open house (Nov. 2nd) for the Downtown Renewal project Feedback is being sought for two Environmental Assessments,
- The Wyndham Street EA will examine the function of the road for all users including the number of traffic lanes and available active transportation infrastructure.
- The other EA will examine the Macdonell Street Bridge and Allan Dam structures across the Speed River to confirm required improvements and the preferred solution for each.
The Macdonell Street Bridge and Allan Dam EA is of particular interest to Ward residents because these bridges and dam connect the Ward to downtown Guelph at the Elizabeth/Arthur/Macdonell intersection.
We had two public meetings at the bridge/dam site to consider the possibility of extending the approved active transportation bridge between the Ward and downtown. Ward to Downtown Bridges and how they affect the Trans Canada Trail. As with the Ward to Downtown bridge, if a grade separated active transportation trail is wanted then this must be accommodated when the Macdonell bridge is reconstructed. It is important that public opinion is heard on this as early as possible in the process.
